The overall Digpro product suite design strategy has been to develop an integrated offering of applications and modules, built on the same platform for geographic data, covering the full lifecycle of network management. The result is a superior, web-based solution with comprehensive, embedded GIS functionality.
The base platform
The base platform includes a unique, purpose-built GIS engine platform, dpSpatial.
The GIS platform and tools manage all aspects of network documentation including geographic and schematic views, single-line diagrams, maps and overviews, topologies, asset data, and others.
A Digpro solution comprises a built-in asset register that integrates advanced GIS technology with Oracle or PostgreSQL databases for editing, storing, analyzing, and presenting geographical data.
Requirements of the utility industry
The GIS platform is designed to handle the significant up-time requirements of the utility industry.
Using a single, central database and advanced geo-spatial functionality, Digpro’s solution allows customers to avoid time-consuming, asynchronous data transfers between systems. This makes the system more efficient and significantly reduces the risk for data errors and network down time.
To meet the many challenges involved in building and managing complex networks, the solution makes use of model rules and automatically generated network schematics. Network information is presented in a user-friendly form that is accessible to casual map readers yet delivers rich detail for needed by advanced users.
GIS for Network Owners
A solution from Digpro provides a much higher level of flexibility compared to competing solutions, which are typically less comprehensive, more rigid, and built on a third-party GIS software.
Digpro’s solution was first developed for the electrical power industry but has subsequently been further developed to suit additional utility industries such as gas, telecom, heating & cooling, and water & waste water.
Every feature request is treated as a possible system enhancement. The non-proprietary nature of the system’s general architecture means that any enhancements made in response to a customer request are provided to all users during routine upgrades. This approach not only delivers ongoing improvements, but also results in a highly standardized application where difficult maintenance scenarios are avoided.
The software makes the most complex contexts clear and allows users to gain a complete overview of network functionality and architecture which, in turn, provides improved control over all phases in the lifecycle of the distribution network.
Access to comprehensive and correct data allows more advanced analysis on how to optimize operations.
Moreover, the process significantly improves customer service as the customer service organization can locate errors and act fast to have local service personnel fix the error while at the same time providing correct and up-to-date information to customers.
Contrary to competing solutions using a third-party GIS-platform, Digpro offers a fully homogenous system, eliminating compatibility and licensing issues. All data is stored in one common database, simplifying data integrity, security, and interoperability. The straightforward user interface can be adapted to each user’s work tasks. This decreases the need for training and reduces errors when operating the system.
Digpro is in full control of all software components and can provide customers with comprehensive support and helpdesk services throughout the whole support chain, with no licensing issues.

Our product portfolio:
Digpro applications integrate the latest innovations in database technology. The advanced, distributed, web-based architecture, built-in GIS engine, and state-of-the-art workflow provide a highly effective tool to manage the big data of utilities of all sizes. All network objects are connected with respect to pre-built physical and logical design rules. Modules and components work together to create a robust, scalable, high-performance system.
Our solutions are built using advanced, purpose-built, quality-assurance algorithms that guarantee network data that is logical and verified from a network topology point of view.
This is the best assurance of high-quality, error-free network models and functions for advanced network calculations, solving a classic challenge for companies using generic GIS systems. The Digpro platform sets the standards for high-quality, advanced network planning and operation.
The Digpro platform is a web-based, open system built on industry-standard technology. Data models are compliant with OpenGIS specifications for spatial data, and follow relevant IEC specifications for network model data. The system is platform-independent and able to run on virtually any operating system, but is commonly run under RedHat Linux.
One of the strengths of the Digpro platform is its scalability. Thanks to the three-tier architecture design, the middle-logic tier is implemented on a cluster of web servers. All big-data processing is done in the database, resulting in great performance. Customers with only a few users or several thousand users can simultaneously access the system. If additional user capacity is needed, the system can be effortlessly expanded by adding web servers and growing the database.
The web clients require only a standard web browser such as Google Chrome or Internet Explorer. The Digpro main user-interface client runs on any operating system that supports Java, while Digpro’s purpose-built field apps can be used on any mobile device with an HTML5 browser.
Organizations often need the ability to integrate services and data from many different sources and in different formats. They also want to support a wide range of business processes across their organizations. Digpro is committed to the open standards and interoperability that enable this type of environment.
Everyone benefits from relying on open, well-documented standards rather than vendor-owned technologies for data exchange. Whether trying to achieve GIS interoperability, network-model data exchange, or real-time data acquisition, Digpro solutions interoperate seamlessly with other platforms and across different IT environments and third-party applications. This support for high levels of interoperability ease real-world implementation and integration of Digpro’s platform into your enterprise environment.

Digpro’s industry applications are recognized for being user friendly, modular in design, and flexible. Customers typically don’t need to modify their established processes. Instead, our applications can be adapted to the way you work.
In most deployments, the Digpro products serve as the master source for the utility network model and related asset data. The network model typically consists of millions and millions of data elements, including equipment, assets, customer data, and their connectivity. The network model, spatial data, and customer data are typically brought together from different sources. The Digpro platform provides the needed data import and export features to convert the data into a network model, as well as exports a network model to external applications, such as third party ADMS systems.
Exchanging data related to process events or transactions is accomplished with the Digpro product line’s use of standards and baseline APIs (Application Programming Interfaces). Our API designs support SOA and are usually implemented as SOAP web services. Different SOA integration implementations are also supported and available.
Integration with Real-Time Systems
Digpro’s products are typically integrated with the real-time operational SCADA systems as well as Internet of Things deployments. Digpro applications recognize and support OPC UA as a main and critical standard, ensuring interoperability between different real-time data sources and assets.
