Our Platform Technology and Architecture

Open standards

The Digpro platform is a web-based, open system built on industry-standard technology. Data models are compliant with OpenGIS specifications for spatial data, and follow relevant IEC specifications for network model data. The system is platform-independent and able to run on virtually any operating system, but is commonly run under RedHat Linux. 

 

Scalability

One of the strengths of the Digpro platform is its scalability. Thanks to the three-tier architecture design, the middle-logic tier is implemented on a cluster of web servers. All big-data processing is done in the database, resulting in great performance. Customers with only a few users or several thousand users can simultaneously access the system. If additional user capacity is needed, the system can be effortlessly expanded by adding web servers and growing the database.


Web Solution
 

The web clients require only a standard web browser such as Google Chrome or Internet Explorer. The Digpro main user-interface client runs on any operating system that supports Java, while Digpro’s purpose-built field apps can be used on any mobile device with an HTML5 browser.

Digpro embraces service-oriented architecture (SOA), implementing a wide range of technologies including SOAP web services, enterprise service bus messaging, and others to integrate or exchange data and support business processes across platforms.

Integrations, Service-Oriented Architecture, and Plug-Ins

Digpro’s industry applications are recognized for being user friendly, modular in design, and flexible. Customers typically don’t need to modify their established processes. Instead, our applications can be adapted to the way you work. 

Master Data 

In most deployments, the Digpro products serve as the master source for the utility network model and related asset data. The network model typically consists of millions and millions of data elements, including equipment, assets, customer data, and their connectivity. The network model, spatial data, and customer data are typically brought together from different sources. The Digpro platform provides the needed data import and export features to convert the data into a network model, as well as exports a network model to external applications, such as third party ADMS systems. 


Transactional Data
 

Exchanging data related to process events or transactions is accomplished with the Digpro product line’s use of standards and baseline APIs (Application Programming Interfaces). Our API designs support SOA and are usually implemented as SOAP web services. Different SOA integration implementations are also supported and available. 


Integration with Real-Time Systems
 

Digpro’s products are typically integrated with the real-time operational SCADA systems as well as Internet of Things deployments. Digpro applications recognize and support OPC UA as a main and critical standard, ensuring interoperability between different real-time data sources and assets.

Support for Extensions
 

The Plug-In capability provides utility’s IT departments and certified partners with the tools needed to write software components that extend the standard Digpro platform APIs and interoperability features, allowing for additional customization. 

Migrate Data and Import Geospatial Data

Geospatial network data from your legacy GIS or other data sources can be imported to the Digpro base platform using standard import procedures. The external data is extracted and transformed or converted based on business rules and data-model mapping methodology. The interface initially populates the Digpro platform database with all basic network and geospatial data. 

The Digpro base platform includes tools and methodologies to extract and process bulk import or incremental updates from external, legacy third-party systems and databases. We have nearly 30 years of experience migrating geospatial data from these types of databases.


To support customers deploying a Digpro GIS platform that will serve as the new master for geospatial and/or network data, and who already operate third-party or legacy OMS/DMS systems, we can set up either incremental or transactional updates between the systems.
 

Customers with existing and/or legacy systems can retain the value of that data by transferring it to Digpro applications. Where necessary, we can provide the needed technical support and services to migrate, transform, or shape existing geospatial data for use in your new systems.
Those services include:

Big Data Challenges
